Why exam season becomes a spreadsheet problem
Marks start life in the hands of subject teachers, but a report card needs them assembled per student. That means collecting from a dozen or more people, in whatever format each one used, and combining them into a layout your board expects. Every transfer between those steps is both office time and a chance to introduce an error.
Corrections are worse than the original entry. A single mark changed after collation has to be found, altered, and carried through totals, averages, grades and the printed card.
